For the second time, 3 new globally unique awards have been presented:
“Best Palate Cigar” was won by SILENCIO Black Supremo a cigar that impressed with its distinct and refined taste, delivering an explosion of flavours on the smoker’s taste buds.
The cigar that received the “Best Look & Feel / Pre-Light” award, the CAVALIER GENEVE BLACK II TORO GORDO II impressed the judges with its visual appearance and build quality. From the quality and appearance of the wrapper to the impeccable finish of the cigar, it was recognized as a standout.
The award for “Best Burn Cigar” went to La Galera Anemoi which measured the cigar’s burn quality. This award was won by a cigar that managed to deliver an even burn for a fabulous experience.
Following a tradition spanning almost a decade, the CAESAR Cigar of the Year Jury has gathered to participate in a new edition of the European competition. The CCTY 2024 Jury was joined by His Excellency Hassan Abouyoub, the Ambasador of Morocco who was elected as the Honorary Chairman of the Jury. Also, Mr. Victor Martin and Mr Flavius Teodosiu Jr, are new judges in this year edition. As in the previous edition, the jury members were: Lucian Azoiței, Marius Ghenea, Eduard Uzunov, Dragoș Alecu, and Dan Vardie, founder of CAESAR – Jury president.
The event brings together, as it does every year, 8 independent cigar aficionado members from fields that do not interfere with cigar distribution and import commercial business. Folowing the well established tradition, the competition was completely independent, with all sessions being fully supported by the jury members and the participating importers’ contribution consisting exclusively of the participating cigars.
Only 11 cigars made it to the final round, carefully evaluated by the experts. The judges carefully analysed and scored each cigar using an internationally certified scoring grid, which assigns up to 100 points to a cigar. The voting resulted in a ranking based on the number of points awarded by the jurors – from which the extreme, highest and lowest scores were subtracted, then averaged to arrive at the final score. This score resulted in the final ranking of the competition and the winner of the CAESAR Cigar of The Year 2024 title!
All tasting sessions were “blind”, with all cigars previously anonymised by removing all identifiers and applying white rings inscribed with numbers 1 to 11. The allocation of competition numbers was done randomly before the start of the sessions, in a meeting attended by representatives of the organisers and importers but not by members of the Jury.
The event was a remarkable success, highlighting the creativity of the master blenders and the quality of the cigars, which have improved significantly from edition to edition.
CCTY 2024 is an European regional competition exclusively for adult cigar smokers over 18 years old who share this passion.
CAESAR aims to promote the idea that cigar smoking is an attribute of people of spirit, bon viveurs, who participate in a unique, extraordinary experience. Smoking a cigar together is a joy we share with everyone around us at a cigar lounge.
Also, following the tradition of previous editions, CAESAR invites all cigar enthusiasts to smoke all the 11 finalists, these being the best among the hundreds of brands and vitolas introduced on the market.
